The Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development—including the management of an environmentally friendly and equitable palm oil industry—by participating in the Indonesia Pavilion’s Business Forum titled “Palm to Sustainability: Unlocking the Value of Biomass.”

Held on October 10, 2025, the forum invited global stakeholders to explore how palm biomass can drive energy transition, foster innovation, and open new horizons for investment.

BPDP’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka represents its efforts to showcase the tangible contributions of palm oil in supporting the global decarbonization and renewable energy agenda. The agency aims to promote the utilization of palm oil by-products—previously considered waste—into high-value commodities. BPDP also hopes that its involvement in the Indonesia Pavilion will attract foreign investment to strengthen Indonesia’s downstream biomass industry and build a positive image of Indonesian palm oil as part of the global sustainability solution, while facilitating business collaboration with global energy players, particularly in Japan.

As a concrete outcome, the forum resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PT Bio Energi Sawit Indonesia and Japan Biomass Innovation Co., Ltd. for the construction of a biomass pellet processing plant in South Sumatra, with an initial investment of USD 3 million and plans for export to Japan starting in 2026.

In addition, there was a preliminary agreement between BPDP and Kyoto University to explore joint research collaboration on innovations in palm fiber–based biomass materials.
