Osaka, Kansai, Japan, May 27, 2025 – The celebration of Indonesia National Day on Tuesday
(May 27) marked the pinnacle of Indonesia’s participation in the World Expo 2025 Osaka. This
moment underscored Indonesia’s strong commitment to sustainable development and global
cooperation. Carrying the theme “Thriving in Harmony: Nature, Culture, and Future,” the National
Day celebration served as a crucial platform for Indonesia to present its concrete vision of an
inclusive, sustainable, and collaborative future.

“Today, we are not only celebrating Indonesia’s National Day at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, but
also a shared vision of harmony, hope, and the future,” stated Coordinating Minister for Human
Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno. “This participation also marks Indonesia’s return to
Osaka, the city where we first joined the World Expo in 1970. Since then, we have consistently
taken part, introducing our national identity and priorities.”

The series of National Day events begins with a cultural parade showcasing the arts, traditional
attire, and ethnic heritage from across the Indonesian archipelago. The parade starts at the Grand

Ring of the Indonesia Pavilion and proceeds to the National Day Hall. It will feature Betawi ondel-
ondel, Reog Ponorogo, and various regional dances. This will be followed by an official ceremony

and cultural performances at the National Day Hall, and conclude with a visit by the entire
delegation to the Japan Pavilion and the Indonesia Pavilion, ending with a dinner hosted by the
Japanese government.

Indonesia’s participation in the World Expo 2025 Osaka is a strategic step in strengthening
collaboration, investment, and addressing global development challenges. “As an archipelagic
nation, Indonesia and Japan share a long-standing history as partners in development, recovery,
and resilience. From trade, infrastructure, education, technology, to the environment, our
collaboration has stood the test of time. Now, it is time for us to face future challenges through
sustainable innovation,” emphasized Minister Pratikno.

The Indonesia Pavilion stands as tangible proof of the nation’s commitment to sustainable
innovation and a circular economy. Constructed using eco-friendly materials such as Plana
wood—made from recycled rice husk waste and plastic—and equipped with energy-efficient
lighting and advanced cooling systems, the pavilion demonstrates that sustainability is not just a
concept but an integral part of Indonesia’s approach. “The architecture of the Indonesia Pavilion
not only reflects our identity as a maritime nation but also our responsibility on the global stage.
It is more than an architectural statement; it is a living narrative of our nation—rich in culture,
natural diversity, and aspirations for the future,” added Minister Pratikno.

The Indonesia Pavilion records an average of 15,000 to 18,000 visitors per day, accounting for
around 10 percent of the total Expo attendance, which averages 130,000 to 140,000 visitors daily.

As of May 26, the Indonesia Pavilion has welcomed nearly 600,000 visitors. Guests are invited to
immerse themselves in the nation’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Through iconic installations
featuring rare species crafted by Indonesian artists—such as replicas of the Bornean orangutan,
Sumatran tiger, and Bali starling—as well as showcases of UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage
like tenun and traditional textiles, Indonesia highlights its unique identity and local ingenuity. The
Pavilion also features sustainable innovations from local MSMEs, such as woven products by
Lawe Indonesia and biomass materials from Mycotech Lab, demonstrating how local wisdom and
modern technology can synergize to create innovative solutions for the future.

Indonesia is also using this opportunity to emphasize its global leadership in climate action.
Strategic ecosystems such as mangrove forests—which store carbon up to four times more
effectively than terrestrial forests—and 25,000 km2 of coral reefs, home to 70 percent of the
world’s coral species, are tangible proof of the country’s contribution. In addition, the pavilion
promotes 12 UNESCO Global Geoparks and 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including
Borobudur Temple and Komodo National Park, as models for sustainable tourism.

“Let the World Expo 2025 Osaka be a momentum to accelerate sustainable living, promote the
creative economy, and attract investment for the future we envision. In the spirit of harmony,
Indonesia sees this expo as a golden opportunity to deepen international cooperation in clean
energy, green infrastructure, digital transformation, and tourism—aligned with the principles of
People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership. These pillars are essential to driving the
green economic transformation toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” concluded Minister Pratikno.
