Jakarta, February 13, 2025 – The Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) held the Kick-Off Meeting for Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka on Thursday (2/13). This meeting marks the initial step in Indonesia’s preparation for this prestigious international event, which will take place in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to October 13, 2025, under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, emphasized that Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka presents a strategic opportunity to promote investment, innovation, and economic diplomacy in alignment with the Vision of Indonesia Emas 2045. “The President’s directive is clear—Indonesia must make the most of World Expo 2025 Osaka. This event has been in the planning stages for three years, and I strongly hope for its successful execution,” stated Minister Rachmat Pambudy.

In addition to discussion sessions attended by key stakeholders, the kick-off meeting also featured the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas, as the Responsible National Authority (RNA), and Astra. The agreement was signed by Secretary of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Chief Secretary of Bappenas, Teni Widuriyanti, and Head of Corporate Communications Astra, Boy Kelana Soebroto, witnessed by Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/Deputy Head of Bappenas, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, and Astra Director, Gita Tiffani Boer. Astra is committed to supporting Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka, in line with its role in driving industrial growth and sustainable innovation. As one of Indonesia’s largest publicly listed companies, Astra actively participates in World Expo 2025 Osaka to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Indonesia’s Vision 2045.

Indonesia's success in World Expo was evident in World Expo 2020 Dubai, which attracted 2.7 million visitors and generated USD 34.88 billion in investment transactions. With its participation in Osaka, the Indonesian government aims to increase foreign direct investment (FDI), expand exports, and promote tourism, contributing to national foreign exchange earnings. The kick-off meeting was attended by representatives from relevant ministries, industry partners, and delegations from Japan and Indonesia. The discussions also focused on strategies to optimize Indonesia's participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka, strengthening global competitiveness and expanding international partnerships. With a pavilion-themed “Thriving in Harmony”, Indonesia will showcase its economic potential, cultural diversity, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

Through World Expo 2025 Osaka, Indonesia is ready to strengthen its position on the international stage as a leading tourism and investment destination, as well as a strategic global partner. "I firmly believe that if we are allowed to participate in only one international event, without hesitation, I would choose World Expo 2025 Osaka. This is not just about products; we are talking about civilization, culture, and the future. While people say, ‘don’t put all your eggs in one basket,’ if we must, then I believe World Expo 2025 Osaka is the right basket," said Deputy Minister Febrian.
