OSAKA – The Indonesia Pavilion at World Expo 2025 Osaka once again showcased the spirit of Indonesian heritage through the Rolling Exhibition of Liem Ping Wie Batik, which began on Monday (April 28), and a Cultural Performance in the form of a fashion show held on Tuesday (April 29). By combining a premium hand-drawn batik fabric exhibition with an elegant fashion performance, Liem Ping Wie Batik invited visitors at the World Expo 2025 Osaka to experience the richness of Indonesia’s evolving traditions, wrapped in modern innovation.

"I'm not just selling batik. I'm here as a cultural guardian. The world must know that our batik holds value and meaning. This is part of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy," said Marcelina, the fifth-generation owner of Liem Ping Wie Batik, during the opening of the Batik Liem Ping Wie Fashion Show at the Indonesia Pavilion, World Expo 2025 Osaka, on Tuesday (4/29).

As part of the cultural program at the Indonesia Pavilion, Liem Ping Wie Batik presented a series of activities illustrating batik’s journey from tradition to contemporary innovation. During the Rolling Exhibition held from April 28 to May 4, 2025, Liem Ping Wie showcased an exclusive collection of high-quality hand-drawn batik fabrics, blending classical and modern motifs that reflect the beauty of Indonesian culture. These included Hokokai and Buketan motifs, which portray cultural fusion through detailed depictions of chrysanthemums, peonies, and roses—symbols of beauty in diversity. The Buketan motif, inspired by natural flowers like roses and lotuses, also conveys elegance and femininity in Indonesian culture. The Pagi Sore motif also drew attention, illustrating the duality of day and night in a single cloth, symbolizing balance and harmony in Javanese philosophy.

In addition to the Rolling Exhibition and Cultural Performance, Liem Ping Wie Batik will also host a Business Forum at the Indonesia Pavilion titled “A Tapestry of Tradition and Tomorrow” on Friday, May 2, 2025. The forum aims to promote batik as a timeless cultural heritage of Indonesia. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on batik workshop with the Liem Ping Wie team, learning about the creative process from canting (batik tool) to natural dyeing.

Through its participation in the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Liem Ping Wie Batik reaffirms its commitment to elevating batik as a symbol of Indonesian culture on the global stage—demonstrating that traditional textiles can also serve as a graceful and meaningful form of soft diplomacy.
