Osaka, Kansai, Japan, 23 May, 2025 — Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 marks its eighth appearance in the global event. Held in Osaka, Japan, this edition involves 158 countries and 7 international organizations and will run from 13 April to 13 October 2025.

As with previous World Expos, Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka entails collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including central and local governments, private entities, associations, creative communities, and individuals dedicated to advancing Indonesia’s culture, environmental conservation, and economic transformation towards the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.

Based on Law No. 269/2023 by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs regarding the Coordination Team for the Preparation and Execution of the Republic of Indonesia’s Participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas has been appointed as the Responsible National Authority (RNA). Its role is to coordinate and ensure the success of Indonesia’s participation in this global event.

Preparations for World Expo 2025 Osaka began in 2022, with the construction of the Indonesia Pavilion on a 1,750 m² site, interior design, and content development scheduled for 2024–2025. The management of the pavilion and the organization of various activities, such as business forums, one-on-one meetings, rolling exhibitions, and cultural performances, will take place over six months from April to October 2025.

The preparation and execution of Indonesia’s participation through its pavilion are funded by the State Budget (APBN), allocated annually from 2022 to 2025. This budget cannot be equated to the annual budget of a single ministry, as it encompasses the entire cycle of Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 Osaka.

Fostering collaboration in organizing activities at the Indonesia Pavilion is a key mission of the government’s participation. Support from entities such as Astra International, KAPPI, Royal Golden Eagle, Artha Graha Peduli, Indofood, Japfa, and the Didit Hediprasetyo Foundation (DHF) has enhanced the pavilion’s presentation capabilities, attracting over 500,000 visitors by the 39th day of the event.

A notable contribution comes from DHF, which self-funded the curation of exhibition designs and activities like rolling exhibitions and cultural performances, enabling the pavilion to showcase Indonesia’s cultural wealth, advancements, and excellence on the international stage.

Indonesia’s participation in this five-yearly event aims to strengthen the nation’s global branding. World Expo 2025 Osaka serves as a platform for Indonesia to promote investment, trade, and tourism while deepening bilateral ties with Japan and other nations.

Beyond displaying the nation’s diversity and progress, the Indonesia Pavilion also acts as a hub for cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration. Through business forums, cultural performances, and rolling exhibitions, Indonesia highlights its spirit of mutual cooperation, wisdom in preserving and advancing arts and culture, and openness to broad collaboration. These efforts align with the vision of shaping Indonesia’s future as an advanced, inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive nation.
